Granada From Within: A Yoga & Cultural Immersion Retreat

Join a Small, Intimate Group for a Personal and Authentic Journey Through Granada, Spain

Did you know that Villa Laguna is located near the colonial city of Granada, one of the oldest in Central America?
Fun fact: it was named after Granada, Spain—the very city where Miriam, co-owner and host of Villa Laguna, was born and raised.

Now, she’s inviting a small, intimate group of curious, kind-hearted travelers to experience her hometown through a truly personal and carefully curated retreat.

Granada Yoga Retreat Participants in Savasana in the garden

Over six days, we’ll combine daily yoga, meditation and breathwork with visits to Granada’s iconic landmarks and historic neighbourhoods, a guided hike in the nearby foothills of the Sierra Nevada, traditional food, flamenco and plenty of time to explore at your own pace.

This is an opportunity to experience Granada from within—not simply by visiting its most famous sights, but through its history, food, traditions and everyday life, guided by someone who knows it like the back of her hand and loves nothing more than bringing people together.

We’ll end our hike with a local lunch at a restaurant offering a variety of regional dishes. After returning, you’ll have free time to rest before we come together for a grounding evening yoga practice.

Let Miriam Show You the Granada She Knows and Loves

Is this Yoga & Cultural Immersion Retreat for Me?

It is for you if:‍ ‍

  • You are looking for an immersive experience in one of the most amazing cities in the world.

  • You appreciate having your vacation planned with meticulous attention to detail, allowing you to enjoy a unique and carefully curated experience without having to organise every detail yourself.

  • You are excited to call a historic 16th-century estate (originally built as a mill and complete with its own chapel) your home for a few days.

  • You care about eating well and supporting businesses run by good people.

  • You are curious about southern Spanish culture, history, traditions and the modern way of life.

  • You enjoy exploring a city on foot and discovering its hidden corners.

  • You enjoy hiking at a moderate pace and feel comfortable crossing suspension bridges and walking along elevated paths with scenic views.

  • You feel at ease as part of a small group with people from diverse backgrounds who also want to make the most of this experience.

It is not for you if:

  • You are looking for a luxury stay. Our accommodation is a privately rented boutique estate with no in-house staff.

  • You are not comfortable with plant-based meals. All included meals in this itinerary are 100% plant-based, respecting Miriam’s ethical belief that all beings deserve to be happy and free. Since you also have non-included meals scattered throughout the week, you are welcome to find alternative non-vegan options if you wish, no judgment!

  • You are expecting a yoga-focused experience. While yoga, meditation and breathwork are woven throughout the retreat, the main focus is cultural immersion guided by someone born and raised in Granada, not perfecting your headstand.

  • You want to do your own thing all the time. This is a group trip, and you are expected to follow the itinerary most of the time. However, plenty of free time is included for you to explore or relax on your own.

  • You don’t like hugs or laughing until your jaw aches. There will likely be a bit of that happening throughout the week, so consider yourself warned :)

Meet Your Host

Retreat Host Miriam dressed in a traditional flamenco dress in Granada Spain

Born in what was once Granada’s Military Hospital (now the Higher Architecture School) Miriam RM grew up exploring every corner of the city. Granada is not somewhere she discovered through travel; it is the place that shaped her, from its layered history and distinctive neighbourhoods to its food, traditions and particular way of life.

Already an enthusiastic traveller, Miriam left Spain to build a life abroad, beginning in the UK, where she embarked on a career that would keep her in the international aviation world for more than a decade. She later lived in the US, Ethiopia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

After leaving Africa, Miriam became a certified Health Coach specialising in plant-based nutrition, inspired by a documentary about veganism she had watched while living in the US. It had encouraged her to reconsider how she wanted to live and the values she wanted her life to reflect.

Now based in Nicaragua for over a decade, Miriam shares her home with a rather sizeable family of rescued animals and brings together her experience in yoga, health coaching and retreat hosting to create thoughtful, welcoming experiences. Her retreats are intentionally judgement-free spaces where everyone matters and people can come exactly as they are. Her classes are gentle, accessible and suitable for all levels, while her work remains deeply connected to ethical travel, local communities and animal welfare.

Much of the woman Miriam is today—and the work she has chosen to create—was shaped by the loss of her daughter, Aixa, in ways she could never have planned. Aixa remains at the heart of what she does and the life she has built.

Granada From Within is perhaps the most personal of Miriam’s retreats. After hosting two previous editions in her hometown, she is returning in 2027 to share not only Granada’s iconic landmarks, but also the neighbourhoods, food, traditions, stories and people that make the city home—including her mum and aunt, who join her as co-hosts for this experience. For Miriam, this retreat is less about showing guests a destination and more about welcoming them into a part of her own story.

What Previous Guests Have Said

“The trip was amazing, Spain was amazing, the group was fantastic. Learning about and exploring Granada was an experience I'll never forget. Lots of laughter, great food, and great wine. Miriam put together a lovely trip which balanced adventures in the city and nature, downtime and yoga. Even a country wide blackout couldn't stop us! Thank you so much for a wonderful time! Where are we going next?”

— Amanda C. (USA)

“Granada retreat was a winner! It was active, educational, gastronomical and full of many homey touches such as our home meals which were prepared by Miriam’s mother and Aunt. Every day was extremely well organized and thought through.”

— Audrey H. (USA)

“I had an unforgettable experience in Granada, Spain, thanks to Miriam and her thoughtful planning. With a group of 11 from the US and UK, we were treated to a beautifully curated cultural retreat that blended history, nature, wellness, and community.

Our home base for the week was a charming old Spanish-style mansion in the hills of Cajar, just outside the city. The venue had everything you’d want in a retreat space—beautiful interiors, a serene garden, a pool, fountains, and plenty of room for outdoor yoga. It felt like a peaceful escape from the bustling energy of Granada, while still being close enough to explore it all.

From touring the majestic Alhambra Palace and strolling the old town to hiking the stunning Los Cahorros trail and enjoying an authentic flamenco show, every experience was meaningful. Daily yoga sessions (morning or evening depending on our schedule) helped us stay grounded, and the homecooked vegetarian meals served by the garden made each day feel nourishing and connected.

Thank you, Miriam, for creating a truly special way to experience Granada. This retreat was more than a trip—it was a memory I’ll carry with me for a long time.”

— Sinch P. (USA)
