We contributed to the purchase of Christmas presents for the children of the Integral Development Center “Corazón Contento” in Granada (Nicaragua).
The “Centro Integral de Desarrollo Corazón Contento" is an NGO which mission is to help children and young people with disabilities or some type of developmental disorder, and their families, to achieve quality of life, promoting at the same time their inclusion in society.
The center organizes a Christmas campaign to give the children who attend therapy there a little gift, and this year we contributed with $100 USD to buy presents (picture taken at the event to distribute the presents).

We contributed to the Christmas Appeal for “La Providencia” nursing home in Granada (Nicaragua).
This has been the 4th year that Liseth, a Granada-born kind soul, has made an appeal for this nursing home. In addition to compiling a list of the most needed products for the center (cleaning supplies, toiletries, medicines), every year she asks the elderly who do not have relatives to share their wish for Christmas, and then she proceeds to find them a sponsor that can get them their present. This year, we supported her efforts with the purchase of adult diapers and generic medicines (the least glamorous items!). All the residents had their gifts thanks to generous sponsors.

We contributed to the monthly purchase of hay for the rescued horses at the “Mirador de Galán” refuge.
There is a really lovely organization here in Nicaragua called “Mirador de Galán” that rescue cart horses (those left abandoned when they are no longer useful for work due to illness or old age), rehabilitate them and provide them with a safe place to live in freedom for the rest of their lives. The volunteers who run this organization are very committed and work hard to carry out their mission.
In December they made an appeal on Facebook because they lacked $35 USD for the monthly purchase of hay for the 16 horses they currently care for (5 in the rehabilitation center and 11 already safely in the refuge), and we helped them get the funds to order on time. We sponsored a small “spay & neuter” campaign for a few street cats that were going to be poisoned in the name of a lady with limited resources.
If you know us a little bit, you will know that we are compulsive “castrators” of stray animals, and we have as our best allies the tireless volunteers of the “Proyecto Omega”, an organization that runs spay & neuter campaigns for stray dogs and cats or for pets of low income families in different parts of Nicaragua.
In December they published about this case, a kind-hearted lady who was trying to prevent a neighbor from poisoning a group of stray cats (after having poisoned several members of the same colony in the past), so she took them all to her house and locked them up to find them a adoptive home and save them from certain death. Her daughter contacted the organization to see if they could help her get them all fixed so that they do not continue to procreate once they reach their new locations. We sponsored 5 of the 7 surgeries, see here the post on Facebook).
